This project documents a trip with Genteel Coffee from San Diego to the mountains of Chiapas, Mexico, where we explored the cultivation of coffee and the processes involved in growing and exporting it. During our time there we learned about the challenges faced by local farmers, including financial constraints, cartel influence, corruption, and poor harvests, offering insight into the realities behind producing coffee.
The video documents a meaningful journey taken by Justin, the owner of Genteel Coffee, to Chiapas, Mexico, to connect with coffee producers and gain a deeper understanding of the region’s role in the coffee supply chain. With breathtaking views of Chiapas’ dramatic landscapes, from the towering cliffs and lush greenery of its deep canyons to the serene highlands of Unión Juárez.
In Unión Juárez, we saw the beauty of the coffee plants thriving in the high-altitude environment, nestled amidst misty hills and surrounded by a vibrant ecosystem. The dedication and expertise of the local farmers, showcasing the meticulous care they give to cultivating and harvesting coffee.
This visit inspired a community-driven fundraiser in San Diego to support the Mocabe Co-op, a key group of producers in Chiapas. This project was a opportunity to highlight the importance of strengthening relationships across the supply chain and highlights how Genteel Coffee’s community rallied to make a positive impact.
It's a celebration of both the natural beauty of Chiapas and the hardworking farmers who make exceptional coffee possible, ending with gratitude for everyone who contributed to the Mocabe Co-op project. We successfully raised funds at out event and were able to provide new machinery for the hard working community of the Mocabe Co-op and help make lives a litte easier.
